Why is Bribing Your Child Considered Wrong?

Bribing children just plain works. Sure, there are times that it borders on spoiling a child, or instilling wrong motives in them, but if done right, bribing works.

Think about it. Do you go to work every day just because it's the right thing to do? Are we writing on this website because we want to contribute to the intelligence of the wandering mind? No! We are being bribed. Bribed by paychecks, money and other redeemable matter. We are adults, old enough to make decisions based on credible reasoning. Children do not have the maturity to figure out why they should or shouldn't do something, so why is bribery so looked down upon?

I have a child with Down Syndrome and he is very loving, giving, compassion and STUBBORN. You can threaten him with life imprisonment, and if he has his mind set on something it's extremely difficult to get him to change. Funny, bribery will work for him when nothing else will, and chosen wisely, works very well.

I'm sure there are parents out there that think it's terrible that I resort to this low tactic, but when was the last time they went to work for the principal of it? Study for a test because they just want the knowledge?

After raising 4 children, with all of them grown, responsible, loving, giving adults, I have a hard time believing using bribery was harmful. Maybe if I called it incentive it would appear more acceptable. Offering 'Creative Child Bribery' as a class might avert some of the degrading, demoralizing screaming and yelling that many parents resort to in their efforts to control their child.

I don't know, maybe there's a point it doesn't work anymore, but used wisely, it's my opinion that bribery works.

And that advice is worth what you paid for it....
