The Most Amazing Herb!
Many people are not aware of a simple home remedy that can be used for a multitude of problems. Some people know about it, but aren't sure how to use it. Goldenseal is easily found online through any store that sells herbs. Pacific Botanicals is my preferred source, they can be slow in shipping, but the price and quality is worth the wait. The companies that sell herbs are prohibited from telling you what you can use the herbs for, being that it is considered giving medical advice. However, since I don't sell the stuff, I guess I can tell you how I use it! Goldenseal is usually used one of three ways; in capsules, tincture, or loose powder. I discourage capsules because your body can't really break it down effectively in that form (this really isn't the place to explain why, do the research if you must). To use internally, you should always use an alcohol tincture. OK- this is what I have had amazing results with Goldenseal, and wouldn't be without it. Sinus Infections-months of antibiotics didn't resolve a very painful sinus infection, 3 days of 1/2 tsp morning and night completely healed it. Every single person I've recommended it to has had equally good results. Newborns umbilical cords-the local midwife insists that the moms to be have it on hand for after the birth, for the babies umbilical cord (just sprinkle a little on the cord area at each diaper change) and use a little tincture in your perinial wash and you will be amazed at how fast you heal up! Open wounds-we live out in the country and we have had some stray animals brought to us to 'save' with gaping open wounds that would make you question if they will even live till morning. We have sprinkled goldenseal powder on these wounds (you could even see the bone...) and they are almost completely healed up within a week! I can't tell you how many cats and dogs we used this on that would've been given up for dead otherwise. It works on humans, too. These are just a few ways you can use goldenseal, it works wonders and is completely natural. You do want to be careful not to take it internally for more than 2 weeks at a time, it can upset your natural intestinal flora like any antibiotic might if taken longer than that. Important! Do not take Goldenseal internally if you are pregnant, it can cause uterine contractions. Otherwise, it's very safe. Of course, there's always the 'check with your doctor' qualification ... and if you have any unusual medical condition... but if your dog just got laid open by another animal and you can't afford to take him to a vet, goldenseal could save his life.
